M&M I-Practice Chlorine Math

If your chlorine dose is 2.5 lbs/day, your chlorine residual is 0.5 mg/L, and your flow is 300 gpm, what is your chlorine demand in lbs/day?

Calculate flow in MGD

MGD = 300 gpm ÷ 694 gpm/MGD = 0.432 MGD

Calculate Chlorine Residual in lbs/day = (mg/L)(8.34 lbs/gal)(MGD)

Chlorine Residual, lbs/day = (0.5 mg/L)(8.34 lbs/gal)(0.432 MGD) = 1.8 lbs/day

Calculate Chlorine Demand in lbs/day = Chlorine Dose, lbs/day - Chlorine Residual, lbs/day

Chlorine Demand, lbs/day = 2.5 lbs/day - 1.8 lbs/day = 0.7 lbs/day

How about some practice calculating chlorine dosages, residuals, and demands in mg/L and lbs?
